What age can babies start swimming lessons?Babies can start swimming lessons from birth so long as the pool and air temperature are warm enough (around 30 deg C).
Lessons run from April to June and September to December. There are no lessons during the Winter due to the cooler temperatures. what will my baby learn during lessons? The lessons will focus on a range of basic water skills covering kicking, floating, holding on, survival skills and submersions amongst many other exciting things.
We will be building upon the reflexes babies are born with, as well as promoting independence in the water. As a parent, you will be taught the skills that you can use and develop when you take your little one to the pool in between lessons. |
The more frequently you visit the pool with your child, the quicker they will learn and the more confident they will become. This means you will benefit more from the lessons. You should aim to practice the skills covered in the lessons at least once (but preferably two or three times), before the next lesson.
will the pool be indoors or outdoors?
The pools currently used for lessons are all outdoors. Therefore please ensure that your child is wearing whatever sun protection they normally use when visiting the pool. A sun hat and rash suit are also a good idea to protect your child from the sun/wind.
what else do i need to bring to the lesson?
You also need to bring a swim nappy/towel for your child and you might want to pack a small snack for your child to have afterwards. All other flotation aids/toys used during the lesson will be provided.
do i need to get in the pool?
Your child needs to be accompanied in the pool by a responsible adult. This can be mum, dad, grandparents or a family member/friend that you and your child trusts. So long as there is enough space in the pool then mum and dad can both be in the pool with the child. If you have more than one child in the class then there must be a responsible adult for each child.
what if i am not able to swim myself?
As an adult, you do not need to be able to swim to bring your child to classes. We always work in the shallow end of the pool so you will not be out of your depth. Please email [email protected] to discuss this further if you have any concerns.
how do i make payment for the classes?
Payment is due for the full term and payable at the first class in order to guarantee your place. There are no refunds for missed classes.
Full payment should be made in Cash Only and placed in an envelope with your child's name, class and amount written on the front.
If a lesson is cancelled for any reason, it will be added as an additional week at the end of that term.

what if we miss a lesson?
If you or your child is unable to enter the pool for any reason but are well enough to attend the lesson then it is advisable to come and observe the lesson. This will allow you to keep up to date with the skills we have practised and enable you to practise them at your next visit to the pool.
